Martin Canning to stay at Hamilton

DEFENDER Martin Canning has signed a new deal with Hamilton Academical, which will keep him at New Douglas Park for a further year.

However, loanees Stevie May and Gary Fisher have returned to St Johnstone and Kilmarnock respectively, while Jonathan Page and Jordan Allan have been released.

Announcing their ins and outs, the Lanarkshire club said in a statement: “Hamilton Accies have re-signed experienced defender Martin Canning, 31, for a further year. Martin has made over 170 appearances since arriving from Hibernian in 2008.

“The club have also re-signed forward Louis Longridge, 21, who scored three times in his first full season as a pro at Accies.We have also re-signed under-20 defenders Matthew Craig and Aldin El Zubaidi for a further season. We have agreed terms with keeper Blair Currie for him to join us upon the expiry of his contract at Rangers next month.

“Departing Accies are Stevie May and Gary Fisher, but we are continuing to monitor [May’s] situation at St Johnstone.

“English defender Jonathan Page has been released, as has keeper Jordan Allan, but he will remain on loan at Bo’ness United Juniors until the end of their season. Goalkeeper Scott Christie has been placed on the transfer list at his request as he seeks to play regular football and we have intimated to all clubs that he is available for a nominal fee.”
