Martin Canning hails his players for Hamilton Accies safety

Hamilton manager Martin Canning maintained his players deserved all the credit for securing their Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership status courtesy of Saturday's 1-0 win over Dundee at Dens Park.

The New Douglas Park outfit finally quashed any lingering threat of relegation via the forthcoming play-offs thanks to an eighth-minute winner by on-loan Norwich striker Carlton Morris (pictured), which means second-bottom Kilmarnock, who now trail Accies by seven points, can no longer catch them with just two league games remaining.

It has been a tough season for the Lanarkshire club who dropped out of the top six having been there for most of the season and Canning reckons those on the field have got the club to where they want to be. He said: “It’s all about the players. I can’t speak highly enough of them.

“They dug deep again and deserve everything they get. I could never fault them for their effort and application.”

Dundee manager Paul Hartley ordered his side to show a dramatic improvement by the time Kilmarnock arrive on Tayside for Wednesday night’s match, their penultimate game as they chase seventh spot.

He said: “We need to move on. This display just wasn’t good enough.”
