Bradley Minto, 18, of Ford Estate, has been charged with entering the playing area during a match.

Minto’s arrest comes after a person dressed as Spider-Man ran onto the pitch during Sunderland’s 4-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday night.

The pitch invader approached several players, including City defenders Gael Clichy and Martin Demichelis, while shooting imaginary webs at them.

Stewards eventually hauled the arachnoid intruder off the pitch and the game restarted.

Minto has been released on bail, and is set to appear before Sunderland Magistrates Court on December 23.
