MacPherson wary of struggling Forfar

Queen of the South manager Gus MacPherson is wary of visitors Forfar despite seeing them ship five goals at home to Morton in the Ramsdens Cup earlier this month.

Ahead of tonight’s cup clash, MacPherson said: “Dick Campbell will have them battling for everything and we need to match that and then put our stamp on the game. I watched their Ramsdens Cup tie against Morton and apart from a crazy five-minute spell where they lost goals I thought they played well.

“Our players will be well warned about how difficult this game could be.”

Midfielder Stephen McKenna is available to MacPherson after completing a three-game ban, but striker Kevin Smith is still suspended.

Forfar manager Dick Campbell, who has a full squad to choose from, said: “We travelled to Queen of the South at the same stage last season and were beaten 4-1. It would be good to show them we can play a lot better.”

Campbell’s side have started their Second Division campaign in disappointing fashion with only one point so far, and he added: “We have to be much tighter at the back. If we can do that we have a chance.”
