Lurinsky's brace lifts Bathgate

A SUPERB double from Alex Lurinsky gave Bathgate a crucial 2-1 victory at Bonnyrigg to keep their Super League ambitions alive and set up a mouthwatering clash with leaders Bo'ness on Saturday.

Lurinksy gave his team a dream start after eight minutes, a lead they were to hold until the 46th minute when Kevin McLeish scored a penalty. That goal could have ended their title ambitions but Bonnyrigg had Steven Noble sent off before Lurinsky pounced to seal the victory in the 86th minute.

Bo'ness were on East of Scotland Cup duty at Oakley United in a third-round tie, but came unstuck, losing 1-0, with Peter Fyfe scoring. It is the second time Oakley have sent Bo'ness crashing out of a cup. They did the same in the Fife and Lothian Cup earlier in the season.

Linlithgow Rose, however, had no such problems, winning their third round home tie with Ballingry Rovers 2-0. Both goals came in the first four minutes from Gordon Herd and Tommy Coyne.

Penicuik look to have saved themselves from relegation with a 2-1 win at home to Arniston in the Premier League. Patty Bonthrone gave Arniston the lead, but Penicuik's fighting spirit saw them score twice with goals from Craig Millar and Ryan Gay to take all three points and lift them to 22 for the season.

The undoubted shock of the evening was the exit of Camelon from the Fife and Lothian's Cup at the hands of the South Division's bottom club, Livingston. Livingston, now managed by Andy Johnstone, scored first through Carlo Santi but Camelon equalised with a goal from Blair Batchelor. The score remained the same at 90 minutes with Livingston storming through 5-4 on penalties with keeper Andy Sheridan saving the vital spot kick.

South Division League leaders Tranent could have blown their chances of taking the title after a 2-1 home defeat to Dalkeith. The visitors were 2-0 up in the first 20 minutes through goals from Lloyd Richardson and Steven Pudledski. Tranent pulled one back on the hour mark through Mel Graham but team-mate Paul Harvey missed an injury-time penalty. Spartans beat Pumpherston 1-0 (Adam Perry) while Harthill trounced Blackburn 4-1. Dunbar lost at home, 3-2 to Haddington Athletic.
