Lukaku out for Belgium

Belgium have been dealt an injury blow as they prepare to face Serbia and Scotland after Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku was forced to withdraw from the squad with an ankle problem.

The £13 million teenager, a team-mate of Scotland midfielder James Morrison having joined West Brom on a season-long loan, has been replaced in Marc Wilmots’ pool by Gent’s Ilombe Mboyo.

Lukaku, who has scored three goals in 17 appearances for his country, came on for Everton’s Kevin Mirallas at half-time during their 2-0 win in Wales on 7 September after being an unused substitute in the draw with Croatia. Belgium face fellow group leaders Serbia on Friday before hosting Scotland on Tuesday.
