Lomas sees first game called off due to fog

LAST night’s St Johnstone v Aberdeen match in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League was postponed because of heavy fog.

The decision was taken following an inspection at McDiarmid Park by referee Steven McLean.

New St Johnstone manager Steve Lomas was set to make his managerial debut for the club, in a match which was to be televised live on Sky Sports 1, but had no complaints about the decision to call off the game by the match official.

He said: “With it being my first game and live on Sky, it is disappointing but safety is paramount for players and fans.

“You only have to look at the terrible accident in England on Friday – fans shouldn’t be travelling in that. Even if they got here they wouldn’t have been able to see so it’s absolutely the right decision.”

The postponement means Lomas’ first game in charge will be away to Rangers a week on Saturday. Meanwhile, the SFA have confirmed Rangers youngster Gregg Wylde will serve a two-match ban following his red card against Dundee United at the weekend for kicking out at opponent Willo Flood.
