Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge sees off Aston Villa

Daniel Sturridge scored with a superb finish in the first half yesterday to give Liverpool a 1-0 win over Aston Villa and maintain the Reds’ strong start to the Premier League season.

Sturridge received the ball in the area in the 21st minute, rounded goalkeeper Brad Guzan and poked the ball home. Brendan Rodgers’ team has now started with two straight 1-0 wins, despite having star striker Luis Suarez suspended.

Stoke came from behind with two goals in four minutes against Crystal Palace to ensure Mark Hughes’ first home game in charge of the Potters ended in victory.

The hosts went 1-0 down in the 31st minute when Marouane Chamakh netted. Charlie Adam equalised in the 58th minute before Ryan Shawcross got the winner in the 62nd minute.

Hull survived the sending-off of their Ivory Coast striker Yannick Sagbo to beat Norwich 1-0. The win was a big relief to Sagbo, who had performed a classic hero-to-villain vignette just a few minutes after winning the penalty that 
Robbie Brady slotted home.
