Thierry Henry reacts to Brendan Rogers’ sacking

ARSENAL legend Thierry Henry seemed rather shocked by news of Brendan Rogers’ sacking after the Merseyside derby.

CELTIC have been linked with a move for Manchester United youngster James Wilson.

Wilson has been in fine form for the Red Devils’ Under-21 side, but is struggling for minutes in Louis van Gaal’s first team.

And Celtic reckon if Wilson continues to find first-team action hard to come by then they stand a chance of nabbing the England Under-21 forward on a loan deal in January. (Various)

Cummings warned to ‘control enthusiasm’

HIBS boss Alan Stubbs has warned Jason Cummings he’ll have to learn to control his emotions after he was forced to take the striker off as he flirted with a red card against Queen of the South.

Only minutes after being booked for failing to retreat ten yards at a free-kick, Cummings clashed with Queens skipper Chris Higgins, the incident brought to the attention of referee Greg Aitken by his assistant John McCrossan.

Fortunately for Cummings Aitken decided against a second yellow, which would have sent the 20-year-old for an early bath and out of Hibs’ next Championship match against Dumbarton.

Stubbs said: “Jason is still very young and obviously still learning. His enthusiasm was getting the better of him at that time, so we decided to take him off.” (Evening News)

Malonga form delights team-mates

JASON Cummings has paid tribute to strike partner Dominique Malonga, who turned in a fine performance to aid Hibernian’s 3-0 win over Queen of the South.

The Congolese internationalist has toiled to ignite since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations early in the year but a fine solo goal against Aberdeen and his performance at Palmerston have suggested he is back to his best.

Cummings added: “He didn’t get a goal but he worked his socks off for the team and linked things up well. You know he’s always going to do something when he’s on the ball.

“Technically he’s a top player – he’s a joy to play with. We’ve got a good understanding of how to play with each other.” (The Scotsman)

Deila blasts Hamilton pitch

CELTIC boss Ronny Deila has blasted Hamilton’s artificial surface, branding it ‘not normal’ and ‘very, very bad’ to play on.

Deila - who is a self-confessed fan of plastic pitches - said the New Douglas Park surface was ‘slippy all the time’, adding: “I’m very fond of artificial pitches but this is something I have seen in four games here now.

“People are slipping all the time and something has to be wrong with it, it’s not normal.” (Evening Times)

Ozturk injury hope

HEARTS captain Alim Ozturk is to visit a specialist this week in an effort to diagnose the exact nature of his injury problem.

He will travel to Bradford on Wednesday to consult the surgeon who performed his hernia surgery during the summer after getting recurring pain from the same area.

The centre-back has not featured in Hearts’ last two matches and was left out of the squad for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock.

He has also been forced to sit out of training sessions because of the discomfort and medical staff at Riccarton want to get to the root of the problem. (Evening News)

Griffiths hopeful of Scotland start after Accies goal

LEIGH Griffiths is hopeful that his winner against Hamilton at the weekend will give Gordon Strachan a selection headache ahead of the game against Poland.

Fellow international forwards Steven Fletcher, Jordan Rhodes and Chris Martin all scored for their clubs at the weekend, providing further competition for the Celtic striker.

But Griffiths said: “I can only concentrate on what I’m doing for Celtic. If I keep doing well and scoring, the manager is going to have a tough job to decide who is going to play.

“We will see who he picks on Thursday.” (Daily Mail)
