Lee Robinson heading to Swedish second tier

Queen of the South goal­keeper Lee Robinson is to sign for ­Swedish side Ostersunds and will join them before the end of this month.

The 27-year-old former Rangers, Morton, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock shot-stopper was a mainstay in Allan Johnston’s side that won the Second Division title and Ramsdens Cup last season, but he has opted to continue his career in the second tier of Swedish football.

Ostersunds reckon signing Robinson is a coup, as they announced on their website: “Lee was selected as the best goalkeeper in the Scottish Football League and had several bids from Premier League clubs in Scotland to join them, but he ultimately chose to come to Ostersunds.

“We are very proud of that. Lee played a crucial role as Queen of the South went up to Division One again and he did a fantastic job as Queen of the South won a cup competition [Ramsdens Cup] by winning over Partick Thistle in a match that went to extra time and a shootout. Lee saved a penalty during regular time, saved two penalties in the shootout and he also scored a penalty!”

The club’s English manager, Graham Potter, said: “Lee is a very talented goalkeeper who will bring us new dimensions both on and off the pitch. We will get an increase in competition for the goalkeeping position and that will help everyone.

“The fact that we received Lee’s signature despite several top clubs in Scotland wanting to tie him up is a very good score for OFK.”
