League Two wrap: Stirling Albion battle back

Stirling Albion roared back from a goal down to defeat Elgin 3-1 in the only League 2 match played at the weekend. The win was a third in four games for the Forthbank men who appear to now have adjusted to life after last season’s relegation – though Elgin are finding their title push hampered by a lack of success on their travels.

The Borough Briggs side looked to be on their way to their first successful trip since the opening day of the season when they took the lead on 21 minutes.

Craig Gunn provided the advantage when he netted from the spot after Dylan Easton had been fouled by Stirling goalkeeper Chris Smith.

With the wind at their backs, Stirling drew level on 53 minutes thanks to Mark Lamont, who skipped past several Elgin defenders before netting.

Steven Doris headed home a Lamont cross with ten minutes left to edge Stirling in front, with Craig Beattie setting up Darren Smith to send in a shot to take the hosts up to three.

Stirling manager Stuart McLaren said: “The wind made it a real game of two halves. We had done okay in the first half and we were happy to go in at the break just the one goal down.

“The players knew what they had to do in the second half and they went out and did it. We went out with a terrific attitude to working hard and that endeavour got us through.”

For Elgin it was a sixth defeat away from home and a missed opportunity to close the gap on leaders Annan who were on Scottish Cup duty.

Manager Jim Weir said: “We would be top of the league if our away from was better and despite a lot of searching we are still working on a cure.”

The East Stirling game with Clyde was called off after a puddle formed on top of the artificial surface at Ochilview.
