League Two wrap: East Fife take over leadership

East Fife defeated Stirling Albion 1-0 at blustery Bayview to record a sixth win in a seven-game unbeaten run and reclaim top spot in the process. Manager Gary Naysmith said: “The players are delighted with the three points and being at the top of the table. It has been a frustrating time for Kevin after an injury, but he took his goal well.”

Stirling manager Stuart McLaren said: “It was not a pretty game and it had the look of a first goal is the winner meeting throughout. Unfortunately, we never got it.”

Elgin, who had led the table, went down 3-1 at Montrose.

Chris Templeman netted from 18 yards three minutes from half-time, then set up Gary Fraser to double the lead on 55 minutes. Adrian Mallagaray prodded in the third with an hour gone.

A headed own goal by Neil Martyniuk in injury time gave Elgin some consolation.

Queen’s Park returned to the top four with a 1-0 win at Arbroath. John Carter scored after five minutes, the hosts suffering further blows when Craig Watson was stretchered off and Jamie Henry was dismissed for a second booking.

Clyde defeated Berwick 2-1, through Scott Linton’s penalty a header by debutant John Gemmell. Ewan McNeil replied for the visitors.
