Forfar Athletic's grip of top spot continues to loosen after a 1-1 draw at Elgin City left the Loons just a point clear. It might have been worse as the leaders fell behind to a Darryl McHardy header in the 49th minute.

As it stood at that point, Forfar would be dropping to second on goal difference. Then Jim Lister headed the visitors level from a David Cox cross in the 71st minute.

Second-placed Arbroath kept up the pressure on their Angus rivals with a deserved 2-0 win against Berwick Rangers at Shielfield.

The away side opened the scoring in the 38th minute through a Steven Doris penalty after Bobby Linn had been upended by Kevin McKinlay. Martin Scott drove home a second for the visitors in the final minute.

Stirling Albion stay fifth but have realistic hopes of a play-off place after an excellent 1-0 home victory over fourth-placed Annan Athletic.

Stirling’s breakthrough arrived in the 74th minute as Callum Morrison teed up Darren Smith. Their advantage was preserved in stoppage time by a remarkable Chris Smith save from Peter Weatherson.

Montrose also harbour play-off aspirations following a comfortable 2-0 success at bottom side Cowdenbeath, who are now seven points adrift at the foot. Michael Bolochoweckyj’s header gave Montrose a 32nd minute lead which was doubled by Matty Smith late on.

Clyde’s relegation fears were eased by a 3-1 comeback success over Edinburgh City.

Lewis Allan had struck a first-half opener for City but after Matt Flynn’s 51st minute equaliser, a double from Peter MacDonald completed a valuable turnaround.
