The home side opened the scoring in the 28th minute courtesy of a powerful finish from talisman Gary Fraser. However, Forfar secured a point against their Angus rivals on the stroke of half-time when Danny Denholm headed home from a David Cox cross.

Five points behind the leaders are Clyde who climbed to second after an eventful 3-2 victory over ten-man Berwick Rangers at Broadwood.

An outstanding free-kick from Peter MacDonald put the hosts in front after 23 minutes and their lead was doubled by David Gormley’s low finish in the 54th minute.

Berwick responded valiantly, with goals from Greg Rutherford and Greg Hurst restoring parity by the 62nd minute. Darren Lavery’s dismissal for a wild challenge on Clyde’s Scott Ferguson ruined any hopes of a Berwick win though, and Chris Smith headed home Darren Miller’s cross in the 81st minute to clinch a precious Clyde victory.

Arbroath sit third after letting a two-goal lead slip in a 2-2 draw at Stirling Albion. Steven Doris cleverly put Arbroath ahead shortly before half-time and, despite being reduced to ten men when Ricky Little was sent off, Omar Kader added a second in the 68th minute.

Eventually, Stirling made their numerical superiority count as Sean Dickson netted twice at the death to rescue a point.

Annan Athletic rose to fifth with a 1-0 success against Elgin City at Galabank. David McKenna poked Annan into the lead after five minutes, while Elgin spurned a late chance as Kyle MacLeod fired wide.

Bottom club Edinburgh City continued their unbeaten run as they salvaged a 1-1 draw with Cowdenbeath at Meadowbank.

Kris Renton headed the Fife visitors into a 38th-minute lead, before Dougie Gair’s deft finish 12 minutes from time levelled things.
