League One Round up: Livingston swat Wasps to clinch title

Livingston were crowned champions with four games to spare after seeing off nearest rivals Alloa 2-1 at the Tony Macaroni stadium. The hosts only required a point to confirm the title and the pressure was eased within 16 minutes as Scott Pittman unleashed a piledriver from 30 yards to put the hosts in front. The lead was doubled shortly after the break when Jackson Longridge found the net. Liam Buchanan crashed a penalty off the post on 65 minutes and Alloa pulled a goal back through Dylan Mackin two minutes later but Livi held firm and the celebrations started as soon as the final whistle blew.

Elsewhere Airdrie leapfrogged Brechin into third place courtesy of a 3-1 win at the Excelsior stadium. Former Brechin man Iain Russell got the opener on 20 minutes slotting in from a Kyle Hutton pass. The lead was doubled three minutes later through Kieran MacDonald and although a Jack Leitch own goal brought the visitors back into the game Russell scored again eight minutes after the break, coolly finishing from the edge of the box.

Bottom side Stenhousemuir brought themselves back into contention as they defeated visiting East Fife 3-1. Willis Furtado put the hosts ahead just before half-time but Chris Kane levelled on 56 minutes. Colin McMenamin put the home men back in front from the spot five minutes later and Furtado sealed the win with ten minutes remaining, bringing his team to within two points of Peterhead who were beaten 2-0 by Queen’s Park at Hampden with goals from Dario Zanetta and Ryan McGeever.

Completing a quintet of home victories Albion Rovers took care of Stranraer 3-0 at Cliftonhill.
