League One: Forfar relegated after Albion Rovers defeat

The day started well for Forfar when top scorer Danny Denholm, pictured, put them in front after just a minute but Ally Love equalised six minutes later for Rovers after some sloppy defending. Scott McBride then headed Albion in front on 18 minutes after a great cross from Love, before Andy Ryan equalised for Forfar after 56 minutes with a calmly-taken penalty kick.

Rovers had the final say when Mick Dunlop headed home a corner from Love for the winning goal.

Airdrieonians also remain in play-off contention after beating champions Dunfermline 3-0.

Marc Fitzpatrick netted for Airdrie after only two minutes and it set the tone. Dylan Mackin made it 2-0 and, before Dunfermline had time to recover, Jim Lister added a third with his eighth goal of the season.

A late goal from Jamie Robson gave Brechin City a 1-0 win over Stranraer, who could have clinched a play-off place with a victory.

Stenhousemuir beat Cowdenbeath 3-1 at Central Park. The home side opened the scoring shortly before half-time when Craig Sives netted his first goal for the club with a header. Stenhousemuir came back in the second half and Alan Cook equalised after 69 minutes and then Jon Robertson headed them in front. Cook then added his second as Stenhousemuir took full control.

Ayr United thumped Peterhead 4-0 to move second. Peterhead top scorer Rory McAllister had a day to forget – missing a penalty after nine minutes and then, just two minutes later, being sent off for an elbow on Peter Murphy.

It was no surprise when Craig Moore put Ayr in front midway through the first half and Ross McCrorie added a second on the stroke of half-time. Jordan Preston added No 3 nine minutes into the second half and Moore added his second with nine minutes left.
