Brian McLaughlin’s side upset the odds with goals by Connor Barron and Finn Ecrepont, while goalkeeper Jack Newman produced a
brilliant penalty save to deny England’s Nonso Madeuke.

Barron, who replaced the tiring Karamoko Dembele – pictured above – received a surprise call-up to the squad less than 24 hours earlier following the withdrawal of Scott Cusick through injury. His goal came from an astute lob which rebounded from the crossbar and bounced back into the net off goalkeeper Harvey Collins, who also saved a penalty by Ben Cameron.

Ecrepont sealed the deserved victory with a late strike at the back post.
