Ladies’ football: Points vital as Hibs chase Glasgow

The Hibees are just three points off top and face a Forfar side that has recently defeated title rivals Spartans and Celtic.

Kirk commented: “Tomorrow will be a very tough fixture against a side that have impressed everyone this season.

“I wasn’t surprised by their start to the season because they’ve strengthened over the close season at a time when others were losing one or two key players.

“Forfar have brought in real quality to their squad; good, experienced players and they will fancy their chances of breaking into the top four this year.

“After beating Spartans and Celtic recently, they will aim to complete a hat-trick of big wins, but we must be focused on ourselves and approach the game in the right manner.

“Everything is set up for an open and entertaining game of football and we are confident of getting the right result to keep the pressure on City at the top of the table.”

Elsewhere, Hutchison Vale face Celtic at Lennoxtown (kick-off 4pm) and they hope to take something from the game to aid their push towards the top half of the table.

Hutchie coach Ian McDonald said: “Results last weekend kept our hopes of making the top six alive because everyone is tightly packed together at the bottom of the table.

“Forfar’s victory over Celtic gives us confidence we can take something from the game; however, we must curb the tide of giving our opponents a goal of a start.

“For us, anything we get from Celtic is a bonus because the games against Aberdeen and Inverness City are more important – these are fixtures we target to take points from.”

Meanwhile, Spartans look to close the gap on Hibernian and Forfar Farmington by taking advantage of the fact the pair meet this weekend.

After defeating Aberdeen 2-1 last weekend and with a cup final just around the corner, Spartans are looking for maximum points from their home fixture against Hamilton Academical at Ainslie Park (kick-off 1pm).
