The 23-year-old will be reunited with his old Tynecastle boss after penning a three-year deal with the Ayrshire outfit.

Robinson made 115 appearances for the Edinburgh club and was a member of their 2012 Scottish Cup-winning team but found himself surplus to requirements under head coach Robbie Neilson last season, playing just five league game as Hearts clinched the Championship title.

The midfielder said: “I am delighted to join Kilmarnock Football Club and I am looking forward to working with the manager again. This is a new challenge for me and I am ready for it.”

Robinson has been tipped for a move to Killie ever since Locke replaced Allan Johnston as boss in February and the Rugby Park manager is delighted to have finally got his man.

Locke added: “I am over the moon to have signed Scott. He is a tenacious player, great on the ball and makes good runs from the midfield.”

Meanwhile, former Hearts left-back Adam Eckersley has said that he will not be joining Hibs after being linked with a move to the Easter Road club. Responding to a question on social media, he stated: “Wish Hibs well! But no I’m not going there”.
