Kev has gear for marathon cup warm-up

The former Hearts and Motherwell winger, who now plays for the Lothian League Division One outfit, will join more than 3000 other runners in the Evening News-sponsored event next Sunday to raise money for CHAS - Children's Hospice Association Scotland - and his local primary school in Danderhall.

Twaddle will take part in the run with friend Mark McCafferty, a fitness instructor at Danderhall Community Centre.

Then, just four hours later, Twaddle is hoping to line up for Penicuik in their Peter Walker Group League Cup final match against Camelon to be played at Newtongrange Star's New Victoria Park.

And, despite it being a highly unusual double, the 32-year-old is confident he can pull it off. "I had committed myself to the charity run several months ago - way before Penicuik made it through to the cup final and, now that I have, I don't want to let anyone down," he explained.

"It hadn't even crossed my mind that we would have a game because it's on a Sunday so it's sod's law that the cup final is being played then.

"I've been training for the marathon for several months and, as long as I don't feel too tired, I hope to be involved in our game too as it's a good opportunity to win some silverware."

Twaddle hasn't set himself any targets in terms of the amount of money he is trying to raise although he says that sponsorship is going well.

And he's called on friends still in the professional game to help him with a raffle to boost the money going the charities' way.

"Wee Derek Riordan at Hibs and Webby (Andy Webster) at Hearts have both got their team-mates to sign a couple of jerseys which should raise a bit of money," he said.

"I'm hoping to get a few other things that I can raffle off as well and anything I raise will be split between CHAS and my old primary school."
