The 23-year-old put up a picture of himself running at Kolo Toure during the first Old Firm clash of the season, a match that did not end well for the Ibrox side.

Along with the image, Windass simply wrote “tbt”, which stands for ‘throwback Thursday’.

This left several Rangers fans completely bemused as to why the player would want to look back fondly on a match in which his side lost so heavily.

Windass, though, defended his actions on Twitter, saying it was his first (league) game for the club. Therefore he’d always look back on the game with pride, regardless of the result.

He wrote: “My first ever game for Rangers. Yes we lost but that’s not why I posted. Proudest day of career. That was the reason for the throwback.”

The tweet and the Instagram post have both now been deleted.
