We’ll be providing updates throughout the day of every transfer and loan deal involving Scottish clubs, as Rangers race to sign a new striker following Nikica Jelavic’s proposed move to Everton, Celtic fend off audacious bids from Russia and Motherwell try to hold on to Jamie Murphy, a target for Blackpool and Sheffield United.

10.22pm: Hibernian have confirmed that defender Michael Hart has left the club by mutual consent.

10.08pm: Although there’s been a flurry of excitement, Chris McLaughlin of the BBC has confirmed that Leon Best will not be joining Celtic from Newcastle on any sort of deal. St Johnstone’s Spanish striker Francisco Sandaza will not be joining Rangers, but may leave the club before the summer.

9.54pm: Marko Futacs is being linked with both halves of the Old Firm. Currently with Portsmouth, Futacs has scored 5 goals in 13 for the Hungary Under-21 side.

9.45pm: Suggestions that there have been no Rangers signings because Craig Whyte wouldn’t release funds to Ally McCoist.

9.31pm: Hearts will not lose David Templeton, Marian Kello or Marius Zaliukas, all of whom have been linked with moves away over the course of the day.

9.28pm: Bit of uncertainty over new Hibs loan signing Roy O’Donovan’s position. I believe he can play left wing or up front. Craig Brown has called Aberdeen’s new signing Danny Uchechi ‘the new Sone Aluko.’

9.24pm: Hamilton Academical have taken Graeme MacGregor on loan from Bolton Wanderers until the end of the season.

Danny Uchechi has signed for Aberdeen until the end of the season from FC Dender, with the option for Aberdeen to sign him on a further two-year deal.

9.17pm: Less than two hours to go, and the majority of SPL clubs are yet to announce an end to business - and there could still be movement in the lower divisions. Stick with us until 11pm for updates!

9.11pm: Falkirk have accepted a ‘six-figure offer’ from Huddersfield Town for highly-thought of striker Kallum Higginbotham. And there could yet be movement at Parkhead, as negotiations continue into the night.

9.08pm: Hearts have turned down a loan offer from Bristol Rovers for defender Darren Barr.

8.50pm: Falkirk have knocked back a bid from Blackpool (who else) for midfielder Mark Millar, formerly a Celtic youth player.

8.45pm: Thanks to some bolt cutters, the pitch invader has been removed, and Everton v Manchester City can continue, with the score at 0-0.

Meanwhile, Conrad Balatoni has been posting some cryptic tweets: ‘People asking if am gonna be back at Partick! I’m not sure. Will wait and see what happens within the next week but not saying no!’

Stay tuned, Jags fans...

8.41pm: Incredible scenes at Goodison Park as a pitch invader has handcuffed himself to the goalposts!

8.31pm: Nikica Jelavic has finally become an Everton player. Putting pen to paper on a 4 and a half year deal, the Croatian becomes David Moyes’ third signing this month, costing the Goodison side £5.5 million. And Hibs have announced their third signing of the day as Irish striker Roy O’Donovan has come in on loan from Coventry City, joining Sky Blues team mate James McPake. Commenting, Coventry’s chief executive said “It’s an opportunity for Roy O’Donovan to go out and get first-team football and we wish him well.”

Surely there can’t be more signings at Easter Road? Still, with just under two and a half hours remaining, who knows?!

8.10pm: Everyone still with us? Just under three hours left ‘til the window ‘slams shut,’ but still some movement going on.

Jamie Murphy is still a Motherwell player - but for how long? There’s rumoured to be no more business at Ibrox tonight, whilst Celtic are working their way through a list of players as they look to bring in another strike, though without much success.

7.52pm: It’s been a good day for Hibs fans - Gambian defender Pa Saikou Kujabi has already endeared himself to the fans by describing his playing style as ‘like Roberto Carlos.’ There’s confidence for you! And one of the bigger stories of the day must surely be the Easter Road side sealing the 12-month loan deal for one-time Rangers target Jorge Claros, from Honduran club Motagua. After a long wait for international clearance, the club confirmed the signing this afternoon.

7.48pm: Rangers midfielder Kyle Hutton has extended his contract until 2014, but will spend the rest of the season on loan to Dunfermline Athletic.

7.35pm: A lot of talk about St Johnstone and Hearts players, but no-one going just yet...we’ll keep you posted.

7.18pm: Awfully quiet at Tannadice; just the one loan signing confirmed today - striker Milos Lacny in from Sparta Prague.

7.10pm: No sign of any further goings-on at Ibrox - for now. Rangers have had a bid for Grant Holt of Norwich knocked back, and were linked with two other players, but fans are clamouring for Ally McCoist to sign a replacement striker.

6.01pm: Hibs have announced the signing of Gambian defender Pa Saikou Kujabi - the ‘Gambian Roberto Carlos’ - on an 18-month contract, becoming the first Gambian to play in the SPL.

Rangers, who were said to be chasing up to three potential replacements for Nikica Jelavic, look unlikely to add to their squad before the window closes. They had a bid for Norwich striker Grant Holt rejected earlier today.

5.44pm: Kilmarnock look unlikely to do any further business in this window, there is still uncertainty over the future of Jamie Murphy, Efrain Juarez has returned to Celtic after his loan deal at Real Zaragoza ended and Rudi Skacel has agreed a deal that will see him remain with Hearts until the end of the season. Phew! Did I miss anything?!

5.40pm: For Hibs fans, there’s been precious little activity in and out of Easter Road today but it seems that Jorge Claros has sealed his loan move pending international clearance, whilst the move for Scunthorpe midfielder Michael O’Connor appears to have hit a brick wall.

5.32pm: Blackpool have turned their attention to Celtic winger Paddy McCourt after Jamie Murphy turned down a move to the Championship side.

5.19pm: Quite a few updates now. Rob Ogleby has negotiated a termination of his contract with Hearts, and has signed for Wrexham. The Wales Under-21 forward has been on loan at East Fife, after signing for the Gorgie club in 2010 from Coventry City. Another player leaving Hearts is striker Evaldas Razulis, who has made his loan deal at the Lithuanian club Kaunas permanent.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen midfielder Fraser Fyvie has turned down the option to extend his contract with the Pittodrie side. He is out of contract at the end of 2012, and an extension would allow Aberdeen to pick up a bigger fee for the player. The club are also considering allowing Michael Paton to return to Stockport County on loan.

5.01pm: Jamie Murphy’s talks with Blackpool have taken an interesting turn, after the striker turned down a move despite a fee being agreed between the two clubs.

4.56pm: Dunfermline Athletic are poised to complete the signing of Rangers youngster Jordan McMillan. As we mentioned earlier, McMillan appears to be signing on an 18-month deal, with the option for an additional year.

4.50pm: Austria Vienna have expressed an interest in signing Hearts goalkeeper Marian Kello - which might partly explain why Mark Ridgers recently signed a contract extension.

4.47pm: Norwich have turned down an offer from Rangers for club captain and striker Grant Holt. No word yet if the Ibrox side will come back with an improved offer.

4.35pm: For any Hearts fans getting worried about losing Rudi Skacel and Marius Zaliukas - there has been nothing to suggest either player is leaving Tynecastle, but similarly, there has been no word on a contract extension for the Czech forward.

4.17pm: Bristol City boss Derek McInnes is sniffing around McDiarmid Park (not literally, of course), with rumours he is interested in taking club captain Jody Morris and Spanish striker Francisco Sandaza down south.

4.01pm: Talks still going on between Jamie Murphy and Blackpool - no word as yet on whether a deal has been struck.

3.45pm: Former Aberdeen defender David McNamee has signed for Ross County. The free agent has signed on with Derek Adams’ side until the end of the season, after being highly recommended by Dons boss Craig Brown.

3.33pm: Motherwell’s Jamie Murphy is currently holding talks with Blackpool. Ian Holloway must have a particular liking for Scottish players, having already signed Rangers’ John Fleck and former Ibrox defender Danny Wilson on loan. Watch this space...

3.00pm: Still plenty of time for clubs to agree new deals for players - apart from St Mirren, as Danny Lennon has confirmed there will be no last-minute activity for the Paisley side. However, loosely related to transfers, Rangers chairman Craig Whyte has launched a blistering attack on allegations about the Ibrox club’s financial affairs, and has explained why the club didn’t try to hang on to star striker Nikica Jelavic.

2.40pm: Very quiet now, as Jelavic’s transfer is in the process of being finalised (we think), but there’s been some movement up in Perth, with St Johnstone striker Sean Higgins moving to Ayr United on loan until the end of the season. The 27-year-old moved to McDiarmid Park in the summer but has failed to make an impact. Meanwhile, defender Steven Anderson has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2the end of the 2013-14 season.

And that comment about it being all quiet on the transfer front has of course done the trick. Dunfermline Athletic appear to have agreed a deal to sign Jordan McMillan of Rangers, on an 18-month deal whilst Huddersfield Town have signed the much-admired Murray Wallace from Falkirk for £300,000 rising to £700,000. Wallace will return to Falkirk on loan for the remainder of this season.

2.02pm: Kallum Higginbotham of Falkirk has also reportedly been given permission to speak to Celtic and Rangers, with Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace also said to be interested in the 22-year-old forward.

1.52pm: Just a further update on Swindon Town’s new signing Lee Cox - the 22-year-old, who made 82 appearances for the Highland club, has agreed a two-and-a-half-year contract at the County Ground, with Inverness CT due a fee reported to be in the region of £50,000.

Former Rangers and Liverpool defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos, currently at Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga is a target for Martin O’Neill as he looks to strengthen the Sunderland defence.

1.44pm: Norwich City striker Grant Holt still appears to be a target for Rangers as they seek a replacement for the departing Nikica Jelavic. The Ibrox side - along with an unnamed Championship side - are also rumoured to have had an offer for Hearts winger David Templeton knocked back.

1.34pm: Falkirk striker Kallum Higginbotham looks to be on his way to Huddersfield Town for talks - he’s orginally from Salford, around 20 miles from Huddersfield. Still no news on Farid El-Alagui leaving the First Division side though...so far.

1.25pm: There’s been a marked decrease in any (credible) transfer news, although Queens Park Rangers are thrashing out a deal with Lazio’s French striker Djibril Cisse, who was with Liverpool between 2004 and 2006. According to his Wikipedia page, he has owned the title ‘Lord of the Manor of Frodsham’ since 2005, following the purchase of a house in the Cheshire village of the same name.

12.48pm: Scunthorpe manager Alan Knill has confirmed that the League One side have received an offer from Hibs for Northern Irish midfielder Michael O’Connor, and are considering the bid.

12.35pm: Aberdeen need to wait for international clearance before finalising a deal for Nigerian striker Daniel Uchechi until the end of the season, with the option to extend the former Sheffield Wednesday forward’s stay.

12.24pm: Everton confirm that a fee has been agreed with Rangers to sign striker Nikica Jelavic.

11.55am: Aberdeen midfielder Isaac Osbourne has signed a contract extension to keepo him at Pittodrie until 2013, whilst Nikica Jelavic has arrived at Everton’s Finch Farm training complex to discuss personal terms.

11.35am: Lots of talk and rumours going on down south, with Wigan Athletic striker Hugo Rodallega linked with Tottenham following an apparent training ground bust-up involving Spurs forward Roman Pavyluchenko.

11.15am: Celtic’s new Polish signing Pawel Brozek will be unveiled to the media in a lunchtime press conference today.

11.10am: Inverness Caledonian Thistle midfielder Lee Cox has completed a move to Swindon Town.

10.45am: Hibs have put in a bid for Scunthorpe’s Northern Irish midfielder Michael O’Connor.

10.20am: Mark Fotheringham and Maurice Ross are now free agents after leaving Livingston.

10.00am: Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic is being shown around Finch Farm, Everton’s training ground, prior to completing a £6 million move later today. Goodison boss David Moyes reportedly had his offer accepted around 8pm last night, comprising £5 million fee plus additional financial add-ons.

Celtic have apparently knocked back £7 million offers for striker Gary Hooper from Zenit St Petersburg and CSKA Moscow, and denied a third club, Lokomotiv Moscow, permission to speak to his strike partner Anthony Stokes. Celtic previously knocked back bids of around £6 million from Southampton for Hooper, whilst Lokomotiv Moscow are believed to be planning a £3 million bid for Stokes, who was signed from Hibs for around a third of that price.

9.30am: Celtic face a sweat over the signing of Spanish forward Jorge Molina of Real Betis. Whilst the striker is willing to take a wage cut to join the Glasgow side, the Spanish club are asking for a fee believed to be in the region of £2.5 million, which would price Celtic out of the deal. Meanwhile, the club are not looking at bringing in Albanian striker Hamdi Salihi, whilst the wage demands of West Ham United striker Frederic Piquionne have proved a major stumbling block, with the French striker asking for around £30,000-a-week. However, a move for Piquionne’s countryman, Yann Kermorgant of Charlton Athletic, remains a possibility.

9.00am: Astonishing news emerged from Easter Road late last night, as Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon admitted he was trying to put a deal together for Honduran midfielder Jorge Claros, who had spent two weeks on trial at Ibrox. Whilst Claros, known somewhat affectionately as ‘The Pitbull’ is still said to be locked in talks with Hibs, his parent club Motagua, of Honduras, have announced that the midfielder has signed for Hibs pending a work permit, no confirmation has been made as yet. Watch this space for further updates.

Meanwhile, Steve Lomas has denied any approach from Bristol City for captain Jody Morris. Lomas is keen to hold onto the midfielder beyond the end of the season as former Saints boss Derek McInnes looks to bolster his side.

8.45am: Two clubs who haven’t had much in the way of transfer activity have been Hearts and Dunfermline Athletic. Scotland Under-21 goalkeeper Mark Ridgers signed a contract extension with Hearts until 2014 yesterday, and the Pars have brought in Mark Kerr and goalkeeper Iain Turner on loan, but further moves look unlikely for both clubs.

News also emerged last night that Rangers owner Craig Whyte sold off four years worth of fans’ money in order to clinch his buyout of the Ibrox club.

Meanwhile, Celtic defender Mark Wilson looks set to sign for Swindon Town, after a proposed move to Leeds United fell through. If the deal goes through, Wilson will add to the ex-Celtic contingent at The County Ground, joining Simon Ferry and Paul Caddis.

8.30am: A flurry of trialists and potential signings have been at East Mains recently as Hibs look to bolster their squad in a bid to pull away from the relegation zone. The club were linked with Scunthorpe midfielder Michael O’Connor, with South African midfielder Matthew Pattison and Gambian defender Pa Saikou Kujabi on trial.

Aberdeen are still tracking Nigerian striker Danny Uchechi, formerly of West Ham, who is currently at top-flight Nigerian side FC Dender.

To remind you of yesterday’s transfer news... St Johnstone signed Tottenham striker Kudus Oyenuga and Celtic’s James Keatings; Slovakian striker Milos Lacny signed for Dundee United on loan from Sparta Prague; Hearts want-away midfielder Ryan Stevenson completed a move to Ipswich Town, and former Rangers and Dundee midfielder Gavin Rae signed for hometown club Aberdeen.
