Irish to face Spain in New York

THE Republic of Ireland will face world and European champions Spain in New York this summer.

Giovanni Trapattoni’s team will play Spain at Yankee Stadium, the home of the New York Yankees, on 11 June. It will be the last of four consecutive fixtures for the Irish, as they also face England at Wembley on 29 May, Georgia in an international friendly in Dublin on 2 June and the Faroe Islands in a home World Cup qualifier five days later.

The game will be the second of two football fixtures at Yankee Stadium this summer, with Chelsea taking on Manchester City on 25 May.
