Mulraney was a menace on both flanks as he tore strips off both Brechin’s full-backs, for an Inverness side that were in cruise control.

Caley skipper Gary Warren had two goals before the break as the hosts cruised to a 3-0 win in their opening Betfred Cup tie.

George Oakley, one of five new signings handed debuts, got the third in the second half against the tiring visitors.

In his first game back in charge, Robertson was excited with what Mulraney had to offer.

“Wingers have a habit of being inconsistent but Jake can be so important for us and he knows that is a part of his game he has to improve,” Robertson said.

“There is no doubt he can be a huge influence on our team this season.”

Warren scored his first on 20 minutes, heading in a Liam Polworth corner, and diverted a shot from the same player past Graeme Smith 14 minutes later. Oakley put the game to bed before the hour as he headed in from an Iain Vigurs corner and Caley cruised to an opening three points.

The visitors offered little going forward and were missing five first-team players through injury and suspension.

Brechin boss Darren Dods was frustrated at his side’s inability to defend set pieces.

“We gave away three goals from set-pieces and we have to learn from that,” he said. “The height of Gary Warren and Ross Draper caused us problems.”
