Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3 - 1 Coventry City: Caley take Coventry scalp

INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle stepped up their pre-season preparations with an impressive victory over English League One side Coventry thanks to a Richie Foran penalty and strikes by Billy McKay and Jason Oswell.

It was a fifth friendly win in a row for Terry Butcher’s men, although the Sky Blues had a great chance when Foran grappled down Gary McSheffrey after four minutes, only for former Rangers player John Fleck to hammer the penalty against the post.

A tremendous Andrew Shinnie run created the hosts’ opener after 19 minutes. McKay’s resulting shot was blocked by the stray hand of William Edjenguele and Foran made better work of the penalty than Fleck.

Five minutes after the break, it was two for Inverness when Graeme Shinnie unleashed a 25-yarder which Coventry goalkeeper Murphy spilled and McKay slotted home the rebound.

Coventry got one back when Shaun Jeffers netted from eight yards but home substitute Jason Oswell stabbed home the third in stoppage time.
