But how will it impact the country’s European representatives and the national team?

Scotland

Steve Clarke’s side will look to reach Euro 2020 – held in summer 2021 – via the qualifiers. Israel and then either Norway or Serbia stand in their way of reaching the first finals tournament since the 1998 World Cup.

The Hampden Park encounter with Israel has been scheduled for 8 October.

If Scotland win they will then face an away fixture to the winners of the Norway v Serbia clash on 12 November.

These matches will take place during the 2020/21 UEFA Nations League Group Stage with Scotland in a group with Czech Republic, Slovakia and Israel.

Fixtures will take place on 3/4/5 and 6/7/8 September; 10/11 and 13/14 October; 14/15 and 17/18 November 2020.

Celtic

Qualifying for the 2020/21 Champions League group stage has been shortened to single leg ties instead of two-legged ties with the exception of the play-off stage.

Celtic are expected to enter the first round of qualifying, so will be required to play five matches to reach the tournament proper rather than the usual eight.

The draw will determine which club will play the single leg in their stadium. The first round will be played 18/19 August and group stage begins on 20/21 October.

Rangers

The Ibrox side will play the second-leg of their round of 16 Europa League tie with Bayer Leverkusen on 5 or 6 August. The fixture will definitely be played in Germany, but the location is yet to be decided.

If they overturn the 3-1 deficit suffered in the first-leg at Ibrox, the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final will be played as a final eight straight knock-out tournament in the German cities of Cologne, Duisburg, Dusseldorf and Gelsenkirchen between 10 and 21 August.

The 2020/21 Europa League qualifiers will be played over one leg rather than two (including the play-off round unlike the Champions League).

With no cup winners representing Scotland, Rangers will likely begin in the second round of qualifying which is scheduled for 17 September. The draw will decide which team is at home.

The group stage won’t start until 22 October.

Aberdeen and Motherwell

The Steelmen and Dons finished third and fourth respectively in the league and will likely enter the first qualifying round of the Europa League.

The date for the first round is down for 27 August and the draw will determine which of the sides play at home.

The group stage is scheduled to start on 22 October.

Euro 2020

Hampden Park remains as one of the 12 host cities for the tournament.

Games dates are: 14 June, 18 June, 22 June for the group stage. The round of 16 game at Hampden is on 29 June.
