Tartan Army branded 'unlike anything I've seen' as US baseball stars blown away by Scotland fans

Thousands of Scots descended on Fenway Park for MLB match

American baseball players have hailed the atmosphere created by Scotland fans as among the best they have experienced after the Tartan Army takeover of Fenway Park.

Scots have flocked to the US in vast numbers for their first World Cup in 28 years and thousands descended on the iconic Major League Baseball venue for the match between Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers on Sunday.

Still in celebration mode after the 1-0 win over Haiti at Boston Stadium the previous night, the Tartan Army made themselves seen and heard with loud chanting, sing-alongs, bagpipes and dancing in the stands.

The scenes went viral on social media and left US baseball spectators, commentators and players signing the praises of the Tartan Army.

Cody Freeman, the Rangers infielder, said: "It takes over as the loudest stadium that I've played at. I was smiling the whole game. I was just like, this is sick. That song - no Scotland, no party - we were playing it on the bus, on the plane. We listened to it this morning. Shout out to Scots, that was awesome."

Rangers third baseman Josh Jung added: "I've never been to a soccer game but that is probably as close to a soccer environment as you can get. It was pretty crazy. I don't think they sat down out there. It was fun. It felt like a play-off game."

"It was one of the coolest regular season games I've ever played," Red Sox right fielder Brandon Nimmo said. "That was awesome."

Nicky Lopez, Rangers utility infielder, stated: "It was unbelievable. Probably the best environment I've been in other than a play-off game. It was crazy. They brought the energy, they looked like they were having fun, they were chanting the whole time. It was very similar to when I played in Tokyo against team Japan when they were cheering, playing the drums and cheering the whole game."

Rangers star pitcher Jacob Latz added: "Unike anything I've ever been a part of. Everyone was into it the whole game. It felt like it kept building. Those people know how to cheer that's for sure. We were warming up before the game and you could hear them with the bagpipes outside the stadium. They were all marching and we realised they were all coming to the game.

"They started filling up the stands pretty quickly. From pitch one they were rowdy, chanting. The no Scots, no party [chant] was pretty electric as well. Then the ninth inning when they did Shipping Up to Boston was something I'll remember forever too."

Scotland fans return to Boston Stadium for their second World Cup Group C match against Morocco on Friday (11pm BST) before travelling down to Miami to face Brazil next Wednesday (11pm BST).
