According to the Daily Record, three players and a member of the backroom staff have tested positive for the virus. At the moment, Saturday’s match with Hamilton is understood to be going ahead, though things could change as the week progresses.

This is the fourth time the Paisley club have found their preparations disrupted by the global pandemic. A pre-season match with St Johnstone had to be cancelled after seven coaches returned positive tests, though only one of those turned out to be accurate.

After the league season got underway they were left without their three first-team goalkeepers for a week when two of them tested positive. Hearts stopper Zdenek Zlamal was brought in on an emergency loan, though the Buddies lost all three games they played in that time.

Then there was last week’s postponement, which St Mirren requested when they could only field eight outfield players.

This news comes as controversy rumbles on over comments made by Motherwell coach Maurice Ross in response to the late postponement of last week’s game with the Fir Park side.

The ex-Rangers defender insisted clubs should be made to forfeit games if they can’t play, otherwise teams could deliberately take advantage of the situation when they’re undermanned.

St Mirren chief Tony Fitzpatrick was outraged by the insinuation that this could have been what occurred on Saturday. He was today backed in condemning Ross’ comments by Kilmarnock manager Alex Dyer.
