SFA asks all Championship clubs if they want to continue​​​​​​​

The Championship could be suspended after it emerged tonight that clubs have until Monday to confirm whether or not they want to continue.

SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell has asked Championship clubs for a reply by close of business on Monday.

Scottish Football Association chief executive Ian Maxwell has written to all 10 clubs in the second tier of the SPFL asking if they want to continue playing or suspend their league. He has asked for replies no later than close of business on Monday.

In an email sent last night, he mentions that one Championship club has already publicly called for a suspension of all football.

Maxwell did not name the club in question, but Inverness manager John Robertson has expressed reservations about continuing to play during this second coronavirus lockdown.

His club’s match away to Raith Rovers today has been postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the Kirkcaldy club. It came after players and staff were tested for the first time under new protocols put in place to allow the league to continue.

Up to now, mandatory testing for Covid-19 was only required in the Premiership. The SFA, endorsed by the SPFL, suspended all football in Scotland’s pyramid under the Championship for three weeks on Monday, a decision affecting more than 250 clubs.

Maxwell wrote: "One SPFL championship club has publicly taken the position that all football should be suspended.

"The Scottish FA would like to understand the position of your club... please confirm if you are content to continue under the current exemption or whether your club considers that the Championship should be suspended."
