Scott McTominay rescues Napoli with help of ex-Man Utd pal as Scotland duo on target in Serie A

Scotland midfielder scores again but Napoli drop crucial points

Scott McTominay was the Napoli saviour once again as the Scotland international rescued a point for Antonio Conte’s side in a 1-1 draw at Parma on Sunday.

The talismanic midfielder scored a second half equaliser after Gabriel Strefezza had put Parma in front with just 33 seconds on the clock in the Serie A clash at the Ennio Tardini Stadium.

The result has damaged second-placed Napoli’s hopes of retaining their scudetto as they have now fallen nine points behind leaders Inter Milan, who won 4-3 away to Como on Sunday evening, with six league matches remaining.

McTominay struck on the hour mark after latching onto a perfect lay-off from Manchester United loanee Rasmus Hojlund - a former Old Trafford teammate - to drill home his 12th goal of the season from the edge of the area, taking his overall Napoli tally to 25.

The Scot then attempted one of his trademark acrobatic overhead kicks as Napoli pushed for a winner, but it proved a comfortable save for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.

Elsewhere, Kieron Bowie struck for the second time in Serie A but was unable to prevent his Hellas Verona side from falling to a damaging 2-1 defeat at Torino on Saturday.

Verona fell behind after just six minutes to a Giovanni Simeone strike but Bowie dragged them level on 38 minutes by outmuscling his marker to latch onto a long ball before blasting home from 18 yards.

Torino restored their lead five minutes after the break through Cesare Casadei to condemn Verona to a defeat that edges them closer to Serie B with relegation looking ever likely as they sit second bottom, nine points from safety, with six matches remaining.

The game was denied a second Scot on the scoresheet when Torino forward Che Adams soared brilliantly to head home from a cross on 58 minutes but the goal was disallowed because of an offside against Simeone in the build-up.

Meanwhile, Lennon Miller was part of a memorable 3-0 win for Udinese away to AC Milan at the San Siro on Saturday. A Davide Bartesaghi own goal and efforts from Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Arthur Atta secured the points for the mid-table visitors, with Miller appearing off the bench in the 86th minute.

Josh Doig was on the losing side as Sassuolo went down to a 2-1 defeat at Genoa. The Scottish left-back started Sunday’s match and was booked in the 32nd minute before being replaced with nine minutes left.

Lewis Ferguson was suspended for Bologna’s 2-0 win over Lecce following his red card against Cremonese last weekend.
