Fifa have given clubs permission to decline international call-ups

Scotland’s crucial Euro 2020 play-off encounter with Israel at Hampden Park is in doubt.

With the SFA and SPFL postponing all Scottish football “until further notice” on Friday, it seemed likely that the match would be called off.

They have put in place temporary rules whereby clubs are not obliged to release players for international duty across the next two months.

A statement said: “We recommend that all international matches previously scheduled to take place in March and April should now be postponed until such time that they can take place in a safe and secure environment, both for players and for the general public.”

The future of football in the short-term is unclear worldwide.

Scotland had been due to face Israel on 26 March in their semi-final clash before a potential final with either Serbia or Norway.

Israel have advised its residents not to undertake international travel.
