Reports claim former Scottish footballer arrested over alleged match fixing

Former Hamilton Accies midfielder Dougie Imrie was arrested on suspicion of match fixing, according to The Scotish Sun.

The 36-year-old, now a coach at the Scottish Premiership club, was quizzed by police officers over suspicious betting patterns involving yellow cards last season.

The arrest took place last month with the player said to have been released pending further inquiries.

The story was first reported on by the Sunday Post, though they didn’t name the identity of the player involved. Since then the Sun have uncovered the identity of the individual involved as Imrie, who also played for Clyde, Inverness, St Mirren and Greenock Morton in a 13-year career in senior football.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 36-year-old man was arrested on February 28 in connection with a reported incident relating to gambling in sport.

“He has been released pending further inquiries.”
