Scotland striker Oli McBurnie ended an eventful week on a high by scoring in Sheffield United’s impressive 3-0 win over Chelsea.

On Friday, the 24-year-old was fined £28,500 and banned from driving for 16 months following a drink-driving offence near his home in Leeds in October 2019. Yesterday, he scored the second goal in the Blades’ convincing victory at Bramall Lane, steering a header into the net from a pin-point Enda Stevens cross on 33 minutes.

Fellow striker David McGoldrick, back in the Sheffield United line-up after a foot injury, scored either side of McBurnie’s goal as Chris Wilder’s Europa League-chasing side moved above Wolves into sixth place. McGoldrick hadn’t scored in the Premier League for 11 months.

Chelsea stayed in third place, but could get overtaken by Leicester City and Manchester United if they win their games in hand over the next two days.

Another Scotland international was on the scoresheet yesterday, but Andy Roberston’s excellent first-half header was not enough to secure victory as Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley.

Robertson, the Scotland captain, met a Fabinho pass with a beautiful, curling header that nestled inside the far post on 34 minutes. But Liverpool’s perfect home record in their title-winning campaign was ended in surprising fashion when Jay Rodriguez drove a low shot into the bottom corner in the 69th minute.

Watford pulled six points clear of the relegation zone when they came from behind to beat Newcastle 2-1. Captain Troy Deeney scored two second-half penalties after Dwight Gayle had put the visitors ahead.
