Marc McNulty completes Dundee United loan switch

Clubs have agreed terms for season-long loan deal

McNulty has been capped twice by Scotland

Former Hibs striker Marc McNulty has sealed his return to Scotland after his club Reading agreed loan terms with Dundee United.

The twice-capped Scotland internationalist travelled to Tayside on Monday to finalise the deal and turned down offers from clubs in England in order to return to his homeland.

McNulty will wear the number nine shirt for the Tannadice outfit.

The 28-year-old had two spells at Easter Road on loan from the Championship outfit in the second half of the 2018/19 season and again last term after spending the first half of the campaign on loan at Sunderland.

He had returned to Reading after the coronavirus pandemic but was linked with a return to the Scottish Premiership last month.

The ex-Livingston youngster has featured in two EFL Cup matches for the Madejski Stadium side but has been left out of all four Championship fixtures with manager Veljko Paunovic preferring to use Lucas Joao or George Puscas as his lone centre-forward in a 4-2-3-1 set-up.

McNulty has made just 17 appearances for Reading since joining from Coventry City in 2018, scoring once and registering one assist.

Micky Mellon’s side currently sit seventh with three wins and two draws from their opening ten matches, level on points with Kilmarnock, Livingston – who defeated the Terrors at Tannadice on Friday night – and Ross County.

United have already brought in Jeando Fuchs, Ryan Edwards, Florent Hoti, and Jack Newman on permanent deals and Luke Bolton on loan from Manchester City.
