Chelsea and Manchester City 'set to pull out of Super League' - with others to follow as crisis meeting looms

The two English Premier League clubs are reported to have told organisers that they no longer want to be part of the new competition after a furious backlash from football supporters.

The 12 founding clubs – Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Internazionale – have come under immense pressure from their own fanbase and the football community after they sensationally announced that they were forming a breakaway competition late on Sunday night.

Managers and players of the aforementioned teams have even condemned the proposal, which would seriously jeopardise club football as it is known presently, and on Tuesday evening thousands of Chelsea fans took to the streets outside Stamford Bridge to protest against the move ahead of their Premier League match against Brighton.

Now it is being reported that the Blues and also City are on the brink of pulling the plug on the proposals, with the latter’s first-team coach Pep Guardiola adding his condemnation to the plan.

City and Chelsea could set the precedent for other to clubs to pull out of the much-maligned league, with a “domino affect” predicted if some of the club step away from the breakaway group. There are also suggestions in Spain that Barcelona and Atletico are on the brink of pulling out and that organisers will hold crisis talks on Tuesday night to determine their next move.
