The 6’5” striker, who leads the national team’s under-21 scoring charts with 10 goals, arrived at Cormack Park this afternoon to sign on for the remainder of 2020-21.

Hornby began his career at his hometown club Northampton Town before moving to Everton on a youth contract. At Goodison Park he learned his craft under the tutelage of former Rangers and Newcastle striker Duncan Ferguson after switching to a striker role and he has excelled as a targetman to outscore Scott Booth and Jordan Rhodes for the youth international side. It helped earn a £2m move to Stade Reims in Ligue 1 last year.

He has played only a handful of times for his French club after moving but is now on the look-out for minutes at Pittodrie, where he will be joined by Florian Kamberi and link-up with Scotland team-mates including Lewis Ferguson.

Boss Derek McInnes said: “I’m very pleased to get Fraser in, a player we’ve monitored for a while. His Club had other options for him, but Fraser made it clear he was keen to come to Aberdeen which pleases us no end and hopefully he can help us finish the season strongly.

“He’ll give us the goal threat and forward play we know he is capable of and we can give him some much-needed game time.

“The fact he knows some of the players here from the Scotland Under 21 set-up certainly helps matters and I am sure he will fit in seamlessly. We’re really looking forward to working with him.”
