Ross Nicholson’s name appeared alongside the likes of Enzo Maresca, Craig Levein, Stephen Glass and Alex McLeish on Skybet’s shortlist.

The Dons supporters fell as low as 7/1 with friends going to the extent of creating a fake Wikipedia page for him.

Nicholson was listed as manager of ‘Diznei Exeest AFC’ after a playing career with Aberdeen and Central United.

Speaking to Clyde 1, he expressed his interest in replacing McInnes, who departed after eight years at the club.

"A very funny and weird last 15-16 hours or so," the 21-year-old said.

"Somehow a little tweet has gone all over the place."

He added: "Would happily take the job if Dave Comack came calling, that'd be a no brainer."

McInnes surprisingly left on Monday evening with Paul Sheerin, Barry Robson and Neil Simpson taking interim charge.

Maresca, who has been linked with the Celtic job, has emerged as a favourite.
