Iain Russell: Entertainment is alive and well in our league

We achieved our first league victory of the season on Saturday in an enthralling game against a dynamic Dundee side. Manager Gary Bollan had prepared us all week to make our sole focus picking up the three points on Saturday, and that is what we did.

Our main downfall so far this season has been our slow start to matches, which the coaching staff highlighted to the team in the build up to the game. We worked extremely hard on the training ground at trying to rectify this and spoke at length in ways to counter-act this.

Lo and behold, on Saturday we were 2-0 up after 13 minutes. Now I know the gaffer really enjoys my articles and will be reading this, so I will put our start down to great management. This gave us a wonderful platform to go on and win the game 4-2.

There is no better place to be than in a dressing room at quarter to five after a win on match day.

Every member of the Livingston team was physically drained but at the same time absolutely elated after such a fantastic performance. It gave all the boys such a lift to beat one of the title favourites.

It not only lifts the players but also the fans and everyone connected with the club, and, as a result, the stadium was buzzing. In a disappointing week for Scottish teams flying the national flag in Europe, the SFL showed there is still life left in our beloved game.

I am certain everybody at the Braidwood Motor Stadium on Saturday went away entertained, even the Dundee supporters whose team played their part in an attacking end-to-end goalfest.

Both sides set out to win the game and each player gave everything for their respective clubs. That is what the fans want – blood, sweat and tears from their players.

Away from the playing side – which took a disappointing turn with last night’s cup defeat at St Johnstone – the Livingston boys have set up a Fantasy Dream Team league in which we have all chipped in for the winner to take away a tidy sum at the end of the season.

There are a few boys who think they are good managers and do talk a good game. Paul Watson seems to think he is the next Pep Guardiola but his lowly position of 14 suggests otherwise. Sitting top after two weeks is none other than yours truly. I have opted for all-out attack and it is proving successful so far.

Arguably the toughest away day of the season awaits us this Saturday. Hamilton have shown no signs of a relegation hangover and started the season on fire. However we will go there with no fear and give everything we’ve got to win the game.
