Highland League: Formartine fight back

KEVIN Webster told how Steve Paterson’s calm coaxing turned a mauling into a vital point for Formartine United.

The North Lodge Park manager’s half-time team talk had the league leaders storming back from 2-0 down to earn a valuable draw against Forres.

While the draw allowed Cove Rangers to close the gap to a single point, defender Webster knows it is one that could prove massive in the closing stages.

He said: “The manager didn’t go too daft at half-time. He gave us some constructive criticism and made some good points which we had to adhere to. He knew exactly what we needed and that gave us the confidence to come back at Forres.”

Lee Fraser’s double after 12 and 24 minutes had Forres 2-0 ahead in a gale but Daniel Park’s reply just after the hour turned the game. Mike Ewen then claimed his 36th of the season three minutes later.

Cove beat Inverurie Locos, 5-0, Nairn County thrashed Lossiemouth 4-1, while Wick hammered Huntly 4-0. Deveronvale stumbled to a 2-1 win over Fort William but Buckie were comfortable 3-1 winners at Strathspey. Keith beat Strathspey 3-0, while Turriff edged out Brora 4-2.
