Highland League: Emslie hoping Cove can keep pressure on Forres

Paul Emslie used to dream of glory with Glasgow Rangers, but will settle for a Cove Rangers title success come the summer.

The former Ibrox youngster is proving a classy midfield addition for the Aberdeen side as they retain a strong interest in the championship race. A stand-out performer in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Turriff, Emslie is now determined to help Cove crank up the pressure on leaders Forres Mechanics.

Victory kept Cove two points behind the Can-Cans, with the sides still to meet in a 3 March showdown.

Emslie, who had spells with Clyde and Peterhead before his summer switch to Allan Park, said: “We know that Forres have a two-point lead over us and a couple of games in hand. But we just want to worry about our own performances and get the points to keep the pressure on them. We want to still be there or thereabouts by the time we have to face Forres on our own park. That will prove to be a crucial match in the championship.”
