Leigh Griffiths set to return to Hibs for training

Leigh Griffiths will rejoin Hibs for training tomorrow in a fresh move that will fuel hope that he could stay with his boyhood idols for the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old has been training with parent club Wolves this week to allow new Molineux manager Dean Saunders to assess his full squad after taking over from sacked predecessor Stale Solbakken. The change in management has further clouded the issue of Hibs’ attempts to hang on to Griffiths for the remainder of a campaign in which he has so far netted 14 times and earned a first full
Scotland cap.

While it was initially thought that the player’s contract with Wolves expired in the summer it has recently emerged that the Championship outfit have the option to extend that agreement by a further season. Hibs have been resting this week after being given time off by manager Pat Fenlon but return to training tomorrow. And Griffiths will be back with the squad as they prepare for next Saturday’s meeting with Dundee, which is currently the last scheduled match of his present loan deal.

Griffiths announced his
return to the capital on his Twitter account yesterday, tweeting the message: “I’m on my way”, coupled with a picture of a train with Edinburgh marked as its destination.
