The ex-Motherwell CEO tweeted that she was looking forward to “another unbelievable exciting challenge” after six-and-a-half years in Leith.

Dempster was tempted away from Fir Park in the summer of 2014 after Hibs had been relegated from the Scottish Premiership. Under her stewardship, the Capital club were able to end their long wait for a Scottish Cup triumph with the 2016 final victory over Rangers, secure promotion back to the top flight and twice qualify for Europe.

It was announced in late November that she would soon be leaving the club, despite attempts by owner Ron Gordon, who bought the club from Sir Tom Farmer in July 2019, to convince her to stay.

After officially leaving the club on Wednesday 6, 2021, the 50-year-old tweeted: “A fond farewell... next up another unbelievably exciting challenge and opportunity for me, for football and for the widest possible community good.

“I couldn't just leave without saying this.”

She then included a screenshot of a short statement, which read: “I didn't arrive a Hibs fan but it was a challenge I wanted to get stuck into. To restore the club to where it should be. Surrounded by some wonderful people, on and off the pitch, I'm proud of what was achieved and the foundations that have been laid to push on.

“Thank you for all the kind messages. I'm glad we managed to put a few smiles on faces along the way. It has been a privilege - from that day in May 2016, some European adventures and promotion to getting a legend like Pat Stanton back in an official capacity.

“No matter where I go, the club will mean so much to me. It really got under my skin and I wish the players and staff all the success going forward. There are too many individuals to mention that deserve my thanks. They know who they are. GGTTH.”

The official Hibs account quote-tweeted Dempster’s post with a short message. It read: “All the best for whatever comes next, @LeeannDempster!”
