'Laughable': Kevin Nisbet does talking on the pitch to shoot down John Collins' 'lazy' comments in semi-final win

Kevin Nisbet scored one goal and played a pivotal role in the other as he produced a performance that made a mockery of suggestions of laziness and helped ease Hibs into the Scottish Cup final.

The Scotland international, who has now scored 18 goals in his debut season with the Leith side, had been the subject of some surprising comments from former Hibs player and manager John Collins in the build up to the semi-final.

The 2007 League Cup winning boss accused him of not working hard enough for the team but Nisbet shrugged off the slight to edge Hibs closer to what could end up being their most successful since they were winning top flight titles in the 1950s.

“I read them and don't know what he's thinking there. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I just ignored it.

“I don't think being lazy is something that could ever be labelled against me.

“From where I've come from, I've worked really hard in the last few years. In fact, I think it's my worth ethic that's got me here. So, for him to say that, it's just laughable to be honest.”

The 24-year-old was on the scrapheap just a couple of years ago and has worked his way up through League One and the Championship to earn his opportunity at Hibs. A target for several club’s in England, he has also forced his way into Steve Clarke’s Scotland set-up.

But, he has unfinished club business to see to before, hopefully, turning his attention to the Euros.

Having coolly netted the first goal against Dundee United, he said the well-worked second goal showcased the value of Hibs’ main attacking trio.

“I just think we've been the focal point this season. We've taken it on our shoulders to score the goals and we've kept producing. Now we're in a Scottish Cup final. And we feel really confident that we can go on to win it.

‘We have had a great season so far and are on the verge of finishing third and if we could then go on and win a Scottish Cup it would make us one of the most successful Hibs teams in history.”
