SFA meet to decide on Pat Fenlon’s fate

Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon will today find out if he is to suffer a touchline ban following his Scottish Cup final arm gesture towards Hearts supporters at Hampden.

Fenlon appeared to react angrily to the ironic chanting of his name from the delirious Jambo fans, with his side 5-1 down in the humiliating May showpiece.

The Easter Road chief was handed a notice of complaint for allegedly breaching rule 203 of the SFA’s disciplinary charter, which states: “No member of team staff shall commit misconduct at a match, breaching the post-match protocol and committing unacceptable conduct.”

An SFA judicial panel will hear the case this afternoon at the national stadium, with the manager himself not expected to be in attendance, although Hibs will have representation at Hampden. If he is found guilty of the breach, Fenlon faces a likely two-match touchline ban, the SFA’s “lower end” punishment for such an indiscretion.

Fenlon denied his underarm movement, which coincided with calls of “there’s only one Pat Fenlon” from the celebrating Hearts legions, was aimed at the supporters. Following the match he claimed: “I made a gesture in relation to the way we were playing. We kept giving the ball away cheaply. I don’t know what they were singing to be honest.”
