Scottish Cup final: Probable Hampden lineups

THE Scotsman analyses the probable starters for today’s Hampden final

HIBERNIAN

Mark Brown

First-choice goalkeeper since Graham Stack was injured in the semi-final.

Matthew Doherty

Strong-running right-back who has been increasingly confident going forward, as shown in his goal and assist in the relegation decider against Dunfermline.

James McPake

Made captain shortly after arriving on loan from Coventry, the centre-half was Hibs’ most important player in their fight to avoid relegation. A calming influence on his team-mates, he is as important for his organisational ability as he is for his individual skills.

Paul Hanlon

Back close to his best after a period when his progress had stalled, the centre-half has thrived alongside McPake.

Pa Kujabi

A useful auxiliary attacker when his team are on the front foot, the left-back has at times been a weak link in defence. His lack of height and pace have been liabilities, and Hearts can be expected to target him early on.

Tom Soares

Signed on loan from Stoke, the Englishman has been good in patches but does not put in a full 90-minute performance often enough.

Isaiah Osbourne

The English midfielder has maintained a decent run of form this season, even when his team were struggling.

Lewis Stevenson

Voted Hibs’ player of the season, the midfielder has played consistently well. Can only do so much on his own, and at times has been let down by his team-mates. Likely to play wide left.

Jorge Claros

The midfielder has largely failed to live up to his Pitbull nickname since joining Hibs at the start of the year, but he has improved in recent weeks. Needs to avoid the tendency to drift out of games.

Garry O’Connor

The striker’s physical power will be a serious threat to the Hearts defence, although he has struggled with niggling injuries of late and may not last the 90 minutes.

Leigh Griffiths

Persistent and committed, the striker scored the winner against Aberdeen in the semi-final.

SUBSTITUTES

Paul Grant

Drafted on to the bench as back-up goalkeeper after injury ruled Stack out.

Sean O’Hanlon

Central defender was excellent when deputising for McPake in recent league win over Aberdeen.

Ivan Sproule

Pace could prove a threat against a tiring Hearts defence.

David Wotherspoon

Midfielder has come off the bench a lot over past couple of months.

Eoin Doyle

Irish striker scored against Cowdenbeath at the start of Hibs’ run to Hampden.

Callum Booth, David Stephens, Ian Murray, Richie Towell, Roy O’Donovan.

HEARTS

Jamie MacDonald

Took over as first-choice goalkeeper when Marian Kello fell out of favour, and has had some outstanding performances.

Ryan McGowan

The versatile Australian has made the right-back berth his own since Jamie Hamill was ruled out through injury. Provides cover across the back four and in midfield.

Andy Webster

An assured and accomplished defender in his second spell at Hearts, the centre-half is arguably the most vital member of the team. Scored in two of this season’s three league derbies.

Marius Zaliukas

When his partnership with Webster is on song, the Lithuanian can cope with anything thrown at him, especially in the air. Lack of concentration lets him down at times.

Danny Grainger

The left-back’s physical strength makes him a tough obstacle for opposing wingers to get the better of. Dead-ball deliveries and long throws are also valuable assets.

Darren Barr

Has settled in steadily to the holding midfield role since Adrian Mrowiec dropped out through injury. Provides cover at right-back and centre-half.

Ian Black

The midfield playmaker will be desperate to do well in his final game. Has enjoyed his best season to date, and has been especially effective against today’s opponents.

Suso Santana

Winger scored in last derby. His recent good form should be enough to keep David Templeton out of the starting line-up.

Rudi Skacel

The only member of today’s Hearts squad to have played in the 2006 final, the Czech international has a habit of rising to the occasion and loves scoring against Hibs.

Andrew Driver

Winger has shown glimpses of his best form since coming back from long-term injury, but is still a little short of the pace he enjoyed two or three years ago.

Stephen Elliott

Striker looks likely to start on his up front instead of Craig Beattie. Hardworking and selfless, he is a reliable team player but does not score often enough.

SUBSTITUTES

Mark Ridgers

Scotland Under-21 keeper only recently made his first start for the club.

Adrian Mrowiec

Just back from injury and offers cover at centre-half and midfield.

David Templeton

Just back from injury, probably not match-fit enough to start.

Scott Robinson

A hardworking midfielder who performs a lot of unglamorous but important duties.

Craig Beattie

Has struggled to shrug off a hamstring injury and is short of match practice. Was immense in the semi-final against Celtic.

Denis Prychynenko, Jason Holt, Arvydas Novikovas, Gary Glen, Gordon Smith, Mehdi Taouil.
