Scottish Cup final: Griffiths fit to play for Hibs

HIBERNIAN moved to calm fears among their supporters yesterday after suggestions that striker Leigh Griffiths was a doubt for today’s William Hill Scottish Cup final.

Prolific goalscorer Griffiths is viewed as pivotal to any hope Hibs have of ending their 111-year wait to lift the cup but there was a flutter of anxiety among the Easter Road club’s fans when it was reported that the striker, who has hit 28 goals this season, had suffered a calf injury during training on Friday. A newspaper claimed that the player, who was called up to the Scotland squad last week, had to be taken to hospital after the incident.

However, in response to questions from fans on social media yesterday, the official Hibernian FC Twitter account tweeted: “Leigh Griffiths is available for selection for Sunday’s game.”

On Friday it was confirmed that Hibs captain James McPake had failed in his battle to beat a back injury and was out of the final.
