Rangers keep quiet on Wallace claims

RANGERS have refused to confirm or deny reports that former Manchester City CEO Graham Wallace is being lined up for the vacant job at Ibrox.

Wallace, who has experience at IMG Media and the Viacom group which includes MTV and Nickelodeon, has been floated after Dundee’s Scot Gardiner turned the job down.

Any appointee would need to be re-elected at the club’s annual general meeting on 19 December. (Record)

Scotland v USA: Reaction and analysis

• SCOTLAND manager Gordon Strachan praised his side’s ability to break up play in their 0-0 draw with the USA last night.

Strachan said: “It reaffirmed one or two things, the good and the negative

“So that was handy. It cleared the mind. It was a worthwhile exercise. It was not a great game, that is for sure. It was two teams who knew how to stop each other playing.

• USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann said there is “no comparison” between the team which lost 5-1 to his side in Florida, and last night’s vintage.

The German said: “They are a different side, they are compact, focused and serious.”

• THE Scotsman’s Alan Pattullo praised the tenacity of Strachan’s side, but bemoaned the lack of goalmouth action.

Pattullo writes: “It was just a shame that the stadium wasn’t provided with a better send-off in terms of entertainment last night.” Read his analysis here.

Forster backed as England lose

CELTIC’S Fraser Forster received a sympathetic reception from the manager and press on his debut in a 2-0 defeat to Chile.

Hodgson said: “Forster didn’t have to make many saves but made quite a good one in the first half. He was chanceless for both of the goals.”

The Telegraph’s Paul Hayward wrote: “His reactions were hardly electric, his movements not exactly elastic, but by no stretch could he be blamed for a... disjointed England defence.” (BBC/Telegraph)

Fenlon ready to return to management

FORMER Hibernian boss Pat Fenlon would “jump” at another manager’s role after leaving Easter Road.

Speaking ahead of a Bohemians XI - Shelbourne XI tribute game, in which he will manage the Bohemians side, Fenlon said: “Leaving Hibs was a very hard decision and wasn’t something I wanted to do, but I felt it was the right decision.

“If a job came up, yes, I probably would jump in.” (Sun)
