Hearts set for US takeover

An American property magnate is investigating a bid for Hearts, it has emerged. The would-be mystery benefactor is weighing up a move with the aid of a UK middle-man.

Lithuanian administrators Valnetas UAB, who have effectively seized control of Ukio Bankas from Vladimir Romanov, have been contacted by the investor with a view to being informed of their next moves.

If Valnetas call in the £15 million Hearts owe Ukio Bankas, who themselves are £300 million in the red, it would spell certain administration for Hearts. (The Sun)

Nicky Clark tempted by Rangers

Queen of the South striker Nicky Clark has admitted that a move to “the best club in Scotland” would appeal after talks took place between his agent, his father and Rangers.

Clark, who has 41 goals to his name for the Second Division champions, said: “Ally McCoist has said there is a wee bit of interest and he’s spoken to my dad and my agent.

“I’ve not spoken to him yet but we’ll see what happens over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully something can get done.

“Rangers are the best club in Scotland in my eyes. I would find it hard to say no to them.” (Daily Express)

Leigh Griffiths awaits Wolves call

Hibernian striker Leigh Griffiths will be told on Thursday whether he will return to parent club Wolves, who may yet exercise a one-year option on the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year. The striker will meet with the Wolves hierarchy and his advisers to thrash out a deal that will decide where his future lies.  “I don’t know what will happen,” said Griffiths.

“My agent phoned and said he was going down to speak with the manager this week to see what his plans are. Until that happens on Thursday I can’t say what is going to happen. I don’t know what those talks hold but I know I will go down there and return in high spirits. (Daily Record)

Peter Pawlett told to cut out diving

Winger Peter Pawlett has been told he should be “embarrassed” after accusations that he dived to win a penalty in the latest simulation controversy to hit the Aberdeen player.

Pawlett, who is likely to be punished retrospectively for diving in a game that ended 1-1, sending opponents Dundee to the First Division, was also told to take it out of his game.

“He has previous and he has to stop it. He dives like he is being shot out of a cannon.

His actions will be highlighted, especially as that last incident sent Dunee down.” (Daily Express)
