Caulker looks set to snub Scotland

CARDIFF City captain Steven Caulker has admitted that he still holds out hope of further England cap.

Caulker has been linked with Gordon Strachan’s Scotland set-up - he qualifies through a Scottish grandmother - but has revealed that he still wants to represent England.

Caulker said: “I’d like the chance to play for England again. If a call comes it would be a massive bonus but I have to focus on my club and doing my best for them first.” (Sunday Mail)

Lennon laments lack of signings

CELTIC manager Neil Lennon has claimed that the status of Scottish football is holding him back in plans to strengthen his squad.

Lennon said: “The environment holds us back in terms of bringing players in and keeping them.”

Lennon made the claim as it emerged that Celtic were unsuccessful in a bid to bring Olympiakos striker Konstantinos Mitroglou in the summer - the striker is now a target for Liverpool. (Various)

Celtic v AC Milan: Boerrigter backed for Tuesday

• DERK Boerrigter could be set to appear against Milan on tuesday after his goal against Aberdeen yesterday.

Neil Lennon said: “We gave Boerrigter game time so he can hopefully make a contribution against Milan.” (Express)

• EMILIO Izaguirre is hoping for a result against Milan’s Robinho - after losing out 5-0 to the Brazilian while playing for Honduras.

The full-back said: “I spoke to Robinho after the match and said to him ‘We will see each other again in Glasgow!” (Sun)

• STEPHAN El Shaawary and Mattia De Sciglio are both major fitness worries for the Italians - Cristian Zaccardo and Marco Amelia have both been ruled out through injury. (Sunday Mail)

Griffiths backed by Wolves boss

LEIGH Griffiths has received the backing of Wolves manager Keith Jackett over his tweets after being left out of the Scotland squad.

Jackett said: “We do say to the players to be careful what they tweet… but the other side of that is this is a free country.

“The best thing he can do is go out and get another 10 goals and keep knocking on the door.” (Sunday Mail)

Dundee United T-shirt cannon plan blocked

STEPHEN Thompson has revealed he planned to use American-style T-shirt cannons to liven up matchdays at Tannadice - but was blocked by health and safety officers.

Thompson said: “I want to do more. You go to the basketball in America, it’s fantastic. I wanted to shoot T-shirts into the crowd… with the big air guns you get.

“You could fire 100 into the crowd - it’s a bit of fun - but no. I was told under health and safety I wasn’t allowed to.” (Sunday Mail)

• THE arrival of new CEO Graham Wallace, and his backing by manager Ally McCoist, cannot alone end the boardroom merry-go-round at Ibrox, according to Scotland on Sunday’s Tom English.

English writes: “(McCoist) wasn’t just going to vote for the current board... because of his own survival instinct but because he felt it was in the best interests of the club.
