Here’s how each and every player fared in Ranges’ thrilling 4-2 victory over Hibernian in the Ladbrokes Championship

RANGERS

Wes Foderingham – 5

Had little to do for most of the match and should have done better when called upon late as he allowed a high ball to bounce three yards out, where Malonga headed in to give the visitors late hope.

James Tavernier - 8

A much improved performance on recent weeks. The cavalier full-back had a greater sense of urgency in attack and was generally solid in defence, helping to keep McGinn quiet throughout. He also started the move which led to the opening goal.

Rob Kiernan – 6

The centre back was too deep at Hibernian’s opening goal, playing Jason Cummings onside. Recovered thereafter to have a solid day’s work.

Danny Wilson – 6

Distribution was a little sketchy at times and left a leg out when trying to challenge a Hibs attacker around the penalty area on a couple of occasions. However, he was another who did his job well overall to keep the visiting attackers quiet.

Lee Wallace – 7

On another day Wallace could have had a couple of assists as he provided support from deep on the left. Defensively the Rangers captain stayed strong throughout.

Andy Halliday – 4

The boyhood Rangers fan could have cost his side dear with a needless red card. He may not have headbutted Fraser Fyvie, but with a 3-1 lead at the time he was foolish to get involved with his opposite number in the first place. Also responsible for a powderpuff challenge in the build-up to Hibernian’s opener and was occasionally sloppy in possession.

Martyn Waghorn – 8

A lively performance from the striker, flitting between the right wing and up front, was capped off with a terrific solo goal late in the game.

Nicky Law – 8

Law gave Rangers more industry in the centre of the park and his work rate unsettled the much vaunted Hibernian midfield, who all had off-days.

Jason Holt – 9

Man of the match. Holt’s contribution wasn’t just about the goals he contributed – though scoring two and helping to set up another is a fine day’s work in itself – he also sparkled in possession. Rangers passing was slick and accurate throughout with Holt setting an example from the very start.

Barrie McKay – 8

Quiet start but the winger grew into the game and was never afraid to run at opponents, helping to drive the hosts up the park on many a counter-attack.

Kenny Miller – 6

The veteran striker was lively but his final touch continually deserted him on this occasion. Passed up a couple of chances without even troubling the goalkeeper.

Substitutes

Dean Shiels – 7

The former Hibs man slotted into the midfield in place of Law perfectly and produced a terrific cross for Rangers’ third goal.

Nicky Clark – 7

Produced a deft finish to put Rangers two up, a goal that would prove to be decisive after Halliday’s red card and Malonga’s header.

Dominic Ball – 5

Sat in front of the back four but couldn’t do much in the unfamiliar position in the time he had.

HIBERNIAN

Mark Oxley - 6

Little chance with any of the goals and made one vital save in the first half to keep Hibs in the match.

David Gray - 5

Good work in the lead-up to Cummings’ opener but caught in no man’s land before Holt - and Rangers’ - second. Replaced at half time after a clash of heads.

Paul Hanlon - 6

Settled down after a shaky start but has had better games. Unlucky with deflection for second goal but can’t be faulted for trying to get in the way of the shot.

Darren McGregor - 5

Normally a dependable choice in the Hibs rearguard, McGregor had a game to forget as he struggled along with the rest of the Hibs defence to marshal the Rangers forward line. Dragged out of position to give Holt space for the equaliser.

Lewis Stevenson - 6

Inviting cross led to Malonga’s goal that briefly gave Hibs hope, but found it hard going at times against James Tavernier.

Fraser Fyvie - 4

Gave the ball away for Holt’s second and never really recovered from the misplaced pass. Overreacted to handbags with Halliday and was booked minutes later for petulant foul.

Dylan McGeouch - 7

Returned to the starting XI and was always keen to get forward. Brings an urgency sometimes missing from the Hibs midfield but along with the rest of the midfield, didn’t ever take the game by the scruff of its neck.

Liam Henderson - 6

Started brightly like his team-mates, but faded as the game went on as the Hibs midfield, normally so slick and effective, flattered to deceive.

John McGinn - 5

An uncharacteristically quiet performance from McGinn. Perhaps unlucky not to win a free kick in the ‘D’ after a mazy run in the first 45 but failed to replicate the starring role he played the last time the sides met.

James Keatings - 5

Got the nod up top with Cummings, but didn’t produce the sort of form that saw him net five goals in two games earlier this season.

Jason Cummings - 8

Chased everything, hassled the Rangers defence and coolly chipped the ball over Foderingham for the opener. Suffered from the unusually lacklustre midfield performance but was head and shoulders above the rest.

Substitutes

Liam Fontaine - 6

On at half time for Gray and was commanding in the air and dealt comfortably enough with the Rangers attacking threat.

Dominique Malonga - 7

On for Keatings and got his name on the scoresheet after bundling home from a Fyvie cross.

Martin Boyle - 5

His pace is often used to great effect against tiring sides but he got little joy from Wallace on the right.

REFEREE

Bobby Madden - 7

Missed a free-kick for Hibs in the build-up to Rangers’ second goal and was perhaps duped by Fyvie at Halliday’s red card, although the Gers midfielder did kick out prior to the phantom ‘headbutt’. Other than that he let the game flow and was always in control of proceedings.
